Hazardous waste is waste that is dangerous or potentially harmful to our health or the environment. Hazardous wastes can be liquids, solids, gases, or sludges. They can be discarded commercial products or the by-products of manufacturing processes.
Hazardous waste includes, but is not limited to the following: acids and bases, brake cleaners, chlorinated solvents, cleaning products, cyanide wastes, degreasing solvents, dry cleaning wastes, engine oil, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, formaldehyde, heavy metals, hydraulic oil, ink, lead-acid batteries, oil-based paints, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, plating wastes, preserving agents, reactives, and spent antifreeze, in addition to any wastes which meet the EPA’s definition of ignitable, corrosive, reactive, and/or toxic.
